Hulk Vs. (Two-Disc Special Edition) (Widescreen) (2009)

The Hulk Vs. DVD goes a long way towards making up for the ground Marvel has lost in the direct-to-DVD department. Archrival DC has pulled some real gems out of its hat lately, including last year's Batman - Gotham Knight and Justice League - The New Frontier. Marvel, on the other hand, produced several anemic Avengers movies and a milquetoast version of Iron Man that won't exactly make anyone forget Robert Downey, Jr. The humiliating deficit is made all the more acute by Hulk Vs.'s obvious superiority over previous Marvel entries.

New on DVD: 'Max Payne,' 'Saw V'

DVD releases are starting to pick up, but there's still more quantity than quality today. Not even lead Mark Wahlberg seems excited about the convoluted thriller "Max Payne"(unrated, $29.98), while "Saw V"(R, $29.95) sees the bloody horror franchise limping along weakly.

Babylon A.D. – Blu-ray Review

Vin Diesel muscles his way from Eastern Europe to New York City in this post-apocalyptic thriller. The actor plays a mercenary who must take a package west in the midst of a crumbling world, but the package is more than it appears. French director Mathieu Kassovitz (LA HAINE, GOTHIKA) helms this film based on the novel BABYLON BABIES by Maurice G. Dantec.

Babylon A.D. is a gritty sci-fi/action film that tried to break new ground in the genre, but felt a little too long and too familiar. Vin Diesel combines aspects of his XXX and Riddick characters for a film that offers lots of action, but features a plot that gets too confusing by the time the credits roll.
